Solo Ensemble Music Festival

Trevor's first year of Solo Ensemble was quite a success!  He performed a trombone solo (For He That Is Mighty), a vocal solo (Alma del Cora), Madrigal Ensemble (20 students singing ac ha paella) and a percussion trio.  All but the percussion trio were Class B pieces so they required a lot more practice to learn techniques they haven't learned in 7th grade.  But all the hard work, practice and worrying paid off with a FIRST rating on each piece he performed!  You worked hard and earned each one, Trevor!
I volunteered to help process the scores since this year the festival was held in our hometown.  I was able to get out to see Trevor perform each time, though!
The judge that he had for his trombone solo turned out to be the band director that worked at Colby High School when I graduated!  What a small world!
One fun story (and the meaning for the text on the picture) from the day had to do with the percussion trio that the boys performed.  Michael is the only one that actually plays percussion in the band.  Trevor always plays the trombone while Jacob is always on the tuba.  The judge was very impressed with the low brass players picking up percussion and asked them what made them do this.  Jacob quickly responded with the fact that they are friends and it was easier for them to learn percussion than Michael learn low brass quickly!  The judge was just SOOO impressed with the way they played together and went on to emphasize the fact that they can play music together yet even when they are 95.....not so much with wrestling or most other sports!  He was definitely a music enthusiast!
Great job - keep the music flowing, Trevor!
